Sun Protection

  • Polarized sunglasses
  • Wide-brim hat or cap
  • Long-sleeve SPF fishing shirts & quick-dry pants

  • Sunscreen SPF 30+ (reef safe ideally)

Footwear

  • Wading or flats booties/shoes (hard-sole recommended) if you plan to wade
  • Water shoes/sandals with good grip for around the boat

Rods & Reels

  • Bonefish: 7–8 wt rod
  • Permit: 9–10 wt rod
  • Tarpon: 10–12 wt rod (especially 12 wt for big migratory tarpon)
  • Saltwater-rated reels with sealed drags and corrosion-resistant construction
  • Reels capable of holding at least ~200 yd backing (30 lb backing for tarpon)

Fly Lines

  • Tropical weight-forward floating fly line for most fishing
  • Bring an intermediate or sink-tip line if you plan deeper tarpon/permit work

Leaders & Tippet

  • Bonefish: 9–12′ tapered leaders, 10–12 lb tippet
  • Permit: 9–14′ tapered leaders, 16–20 lb tippet
  • Tarpon: straight fluorocarbon 40–80 lb tippet/leader material
  • Pack extra tippet spools (you’ll often run through them)

Flies

  • Bonefish: Gotchas, Crazy Charlies, Christmas Island Specials (sizes 4–8)
  • Permit: crab/shrimp patterns (lead-eye fly assortment)
  • Tarpon: tarpon toads/bunnies/deceivers (sizes 1/0–3/0)
  • The lodge has flies available and can help you choose patterns.

Accessories

  • Saltwater fly line cleaner
  • Fishing pliers / nippers / hemostats
  • Leaders/tippet holder or spare spool system
  • Strip-guards or gloves to protect your stripping fingers
